Hardneck-Rocambole-Heirloom-Naturally Grown
German Red is a full-bodied, strong and spicy garlic that reliably produces large, satiny white outer wrappers and purple heads. The easy-to-peel cloves (8-10 medium to large) are wrapped in fawn-colored skins. A widely popular but rare variety that sets the standard for true garlic flavor.
When growing, these perform best in colder northern climates (USDA zones 3-8) where winters feature a hard freeze, however, here in Oregon we have had success growing German Red even with milder winters.
*Do not store whole garlic bulbs in the refrigerator until after they have been peeled or minced. Peeled garlic can also be stored in the freezer for later use.
Culinary varieties can be shipped straight from the field fresh (July) or about a month later after it's been cured. Please note which you prefer at checkout.
Our culinary garlic bulbs are between 1.5-2 inches in diameter and our seed garlic is over 2”.
